Dashboard Warning Lights

Sometimes a light comes on while you’re driving. It could be your “Check Engine Light” or it could be something more specific. Yet which light is it and what is it trying to tell you?

At CB Chevrolet, we’ve seen multiple vehicles inside and out. We know that every light has a different meaning and it’s important to find out what’s going on. This way, you’ll be able to drive around San Luis Obispo without issue.

Beyond your engine light, there’s multiple other lights to be weary of on your dashboard. Let’s find out what each means and if something is wrong, our San Luis Obispo service center can help.

Dashboard Warning Lights & Their Meanings

Before making your way down to CB Chevrolet and out San Luis Obispo service center, you probably want to know what’s on your dashboard. Here are some of the more common and lesser known dashboard warning lights in most vehicles nowadays:

Engine Warning Lights:

Coolant Temp Warning – If your coolant levels are off, your fan isn’t working, or there’s a coolant leaking, this turns on.

Service Vehicle – This light turns on if an electrical issue occurs in your vehicle.

Reduced Power Warning – If this light comes on, you’re going to need to have your engine serviced, as some part is malfunctioning.

Cruise Control – If your vehicle is in cruise control, this light stays on as long as the system is functioning.

Brake System Warning Lights:

Brake System – This light means something’s wrong with your brakes, whether it’s low brake fluid levels or an ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) issue.

Traction Control or ESP – This light will spotlight that your vehicle’s electronic stability system is being utilized.

Safety & Informative Warning Lights:

Security Alert – If you have a locked ignition switch or a door is left open, this light indicates either a particular malfunction or alerts you of the open door.

Fog Lamp – This light spotlights that you have your brights on.

Airbag Fault – This light can appear when your car is being started to indicate there’s a problem in your airbag system requiring repair or some Chevrolet service in San Luis Obispo.

Washer Fluid Reminder – Not something requiring factory-trained technicians to tackle, this means your car’s washer fluid is low and needs replacing.

Tires Warning Lights:

Tire Pressure Warning Light – The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has spotlighted that one or more of your tires has a too low or too high tire pressure. Take your car down to our Chevrolet Service Center in San Luis Obispo to have the tires’ PSI level adjusted to the recommended levels.
